THE ROYAL BRITISH LEGION

Who we are...

The Legion is the UK’s leading charity providing financial, social and emotional support to millions who have served or are currently serving in the Armed Forces, and their dependants. Nearly 10.5 million people are eligible for our help - men, women and children - and the call on our welfare services is ever increasing. Those as young as 17 can be sent on active service, so veterans are often much younger than people may realise.

Founded in 1921, the Legion is not just about those who fought in the two World Wars of the last century, but also about those involved in the many conflicts since 1945 and those still fighting for the freedom we enjoy today. This year, as always, British troops have been posted to the forefront of some of the world’smost dangerous trouble spots and they may need our help in the future. If they do, they know we’ll be here for them.

Aswell as providing immediate welfare care, we are also the Nation’s custodian of Remembrance, ensuring that the nation continues to pause and reflect every November, so that the sacrifice of those who fought, and are still fighting for our freedom, is never forgotten.

Poppy Support is the name for all the Legion’s welfare services. Despite the fact that we spend over £75 million each year on welfare, there are still a huge number of veterans and dependants who are in need, often because they are unaware of the help we can offer. We want to make sure we reach as many of them as we can.

Our welfare services are split into several categories:

Poppy Funds, Poppy Advice, Poppy Homes, Poppy Breaks, Poppy Travel, Poppy People and Poppy Calls
